- Near Surface Seismology
Several projects involving high-resolution characterization of near surface geology are underway. 2-D land and 3-D marine efforts are leading towards understanding of depositional and structural response to dynamic neotectonic movement along the LA coast.
- Seismic Attributes
Hydrocarbon accumulation is often detected by unique attributes of the reflected seismic waveform. We are presently working on the processing, extraction, analysis and interpretation of seismic attributes within 2-D and 3-D datasets. Partners are welcome to bring seismic data for analysis and interpretation.
- Coal Bed Natural Gas (CBNG)
CBNG is an alternative fuel currently in demand by the energy industry. Existing coal beds are currently largely unexploited in northern and central Louisiana. We are investigating the geologic setting and the potential for CBNG recovery and C02 sequestration of these coals. We invite collaboration with companies who wish to explore for this resource.
- Technology Transfer
With an 18-seat dual-processor dual-monitor PC-based training facility, the Energy Institute is well suited to offer a variety of short courses, seminars and workshops.
Vendors donating their software products include
Seismic Micro-Technology, Landmark, Hampson-Russell, Rock Solid Images, Schlumberger, and the Computer Modelling Group.
The Energy Institute also maintains several Unix-based workstations for research, training, and to serve individual company needs. Our relationship with the NASA/UL Regional Application Center provides access to high quality satellite data sets and hardware devices.
