UL's President E. Joseph Savoie and Ramesh Kolluru, vice president for research, innovation and economic development met Wednesday with more than 60 touring "thought leaders" from 21 countries, part of a larger effort to find common cause and potential partnerships between Louisiana and the ACE members.

The ACE website said Louisiana is a "pioneer in technological growth in advanced manufacturing, energy production, port logistics, biosciences, healthcare, water management and various rapidly growing sectors."

Most of the countries represented were located from Canada to Argentina along with island nations in the Caribbean. Those touring are spending six days in Louisiana. The visitors met with potential partners in New Orleans and Baton Rouge on Monday and Tuesday, met with Acadiana representatives on Wednesday and will travel as far north as Alexandria on Thursday. On Friday, their journey will conclude in New Orleans.

"We hope it will result in economic opportunity, faculty exchanges and more," Kolluru said before the tour group arrived from its morning stop at CGI in Lafayette. UL Lafayette representatives for computing and security; energy and sustainability; advanced materials; climate change and coastal and water research; and human, community and economic development presented displays and talked with group members about possible shared projects.
