Decarbonizing Louisiana’s Industrial Future

Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage Infrastructure

As global markets demand lower-carbon products, Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) serves as a critical technology suite for mitigating industrial carbon emissions while maintaining economic competitiveness. By capturing carbon dioxide (CO₂) directly at industrial point sources, or removing it from ambient air, CCUS prevents emissions from entering the atmosphere, recycling the gas into commercial products or permanently locking it deep underground.

Core Pathways & Technological Pillars

CCUS technologies operate across three interconnected operational stages across Louisiana's energy corridor:

01

Point-Source Capture & Direct Air Capture (DAC)

Utilizing chemical solvents, solid sorbents, or membranes to isolate CO₂ from high-volume point sources—such as hydrogen units, ammonia plants, refineries, and power generation—or directly from the atmosphere via Direct Air Capture (DAC).

02

Utilization & Carbon Valorization

Recycling captured CO₂ as a carbon feedstock to produce synthetic fuels, low-carbon chemicals, building materials, and bioproducts, transforming an industrial waste stream into market value.

03

Permanent Geologic Sequestration

Transporting supercritical CO₂ via pipeline and injecting it miles beneath the Earth's surface into impermeable, deeply buried saline aquifers or depleted reservoirs under strict Class VI regulatory oversight.
